The Italian maestro is among the names being discussed to be the future face of the Euro banknotes.
The European Central Bank (ECB) is revamping the design of the Euro notes for the first time since they were released in 2002. More interestingly, they are giving Europeans the option to (sort of) decide who will be depicted on the notes they would hereafter use for their everyday purchases.
The choice is broadly between two themes: “European culture” and “River and Birds”. The “European culture” theme features prominent Europeans on their front side, and people visiting various cultural institutions on the flip side. These include Ludwig van Beethoven on the 10-euro bill and Leonardo da Vinci on the 100-euro bill. The “River and Birds” feature various European birds and rivers on the front, and modern European institutions on the flip side.

Through a link, Europeans can fill out a survey about their feelings about either of the two themes. The survey would remain open until September 21 of this year. However, it will not be the sole deciding factor; the ECB has also contracted another firm to carry out a separate, independent survey on the design. Based on the two results, the new designs of the Euro would be revealed by the end of this year. However, it would still be a few more years until the new banknotes enter circulation.
