Ukraine Charges Russian General For Destroying Skovoroda Museum

The Ukrainian prosecutor-general has charged a Russian general in-absentia for the missile strike that destroyed the Skovoroda Museum.
On 28th February 2022, Russia launched a series of missile strikes in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine. The attack killed nine civilians and damaged numerous buildings – including the Hryhoriy Skovoroda National Literary Memorial Museum. The museum was dedicated to Skovoroda, an 18th century philosopher, and was located where the philosopher lived his final years until his death in 1794. At the time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy himself posted about the attack: “Last night, the Russian army deployed one of its missiles to destroy the Hryhorii Skovoroda Museum in Kharkiv Region. A missile—to destroy a museum.”

Now, the prosecutor-general of the country has charged a Russian lieutenant-general for ordering the missile strike which intentionally destroyed the Skovoroda Museum. The charges were made in-absentia for obvious reasons, and does not name the Russian general. However, the reports say that “According to the Prosecutor General, the Russian lieutenant general who ordered the attack is originally from the village of Chuhuiv in Kharkiv Oblast and commands Russia’s 6th Guards Air and Air Defense Forces Army.”

The ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict has caused huge destruction of life and property to Ukraine, including destruction of art and cultural heritage sites.
