Art Brussels 2025 Returns with 165 Galleries and a Dynamic Citywide Program

Art Brussels returns for its 41st edition from April 24 to 27, once again transforming the Belgian capital into a vibrant hub for contemporary art.

Taking place at the iconic Brussels Expo, the fair gathers 165 galleries from 35 countries, offering a balanced mix of returning participants and exciting new entrants.

As one of Europe’s most prestigious contemporary art fairs, this year’s edition emphasizes emerging talent and experimental practices alongside established names from the global market.

Art Brussels A Platform for Tradition and Experimentation

Now recognized as a major cultural event in Belgium, Art Brussels continues to champion innovation. This year, a new generation of artists—known for pushing boundaries and exploring new territories—takes center stage, a point underlined by fair director Nele Verhaeren.

Organizers expect more than 25,000 visitors, in line with previous years. Over half of the participating galleries have shown in past editions, while 63 are new additions. Since its founding in 1968, the fair has remained a vital date in the international art calendar.

‘68 Forward: A Focus on Experimental Art

A key highlight of the 2025 edition is the curated section ’68 Forward, which explores the evolution of experimental art and its relationship to the fair’s own history. This segment reflects on artistic practices rooted in political and cultural engagement.

Art Brussels Monumental Installations and Moving Images Take the Stage

Two major curatorial projects enrich this year’s program:

  • The Screen, a video art initiative curated by Eliel Jones and director Alex Reynolds, presents a compelling selection of moving-image works.

  • Monumental Artworks, curated by public art expert Carine Fol, showcases large-scale installations both outside Hall 5 and in custom-designed interior spaces.

Additionally, visitors can experience site-specific projects such as Portal A by Céline Condorelli (presented by Galeria Vera Cortês, Lisbon) and Carton plein, an archival exploration curated by Juan d’Oultremont.

The Cultural Program Spills Into the City

The fair extends its influence across Brussels through a robust off-site program. Highlights include:

  • At BOZAR, visitors will encounter When We See Us: A Century of Black Figuration in Painting, alongside a solo show by Suchan Kinoshita, winner of the BelgianArtPrize 2025. A night of performances and live music takes place on April 24.

  • WIELS features OBSTAKLES by Dutch artist Willem Oorebeek and Patuá/Patois by Brazilian artist Paulo Nazareth.

  • At Fondation CAB, the group show Conceptualisme Joyeux presents playful takes on conceptual art.

On April 23, the city kicks off Gallery Night, with Brussels’ participating galleries hosting extended openings from 6 to 9 PM.
