The Aspen Art Museum has announced that it will share a portion of revenues from the ArtCrush gala with the artists.
The ArtCrush is one of the most iconic gala events in the art world, where prominent personalities attend and buy artworks for the charity auction. The 19th edition of the event is scheduled to happen on 2nd August. This year would also mark the 45th anniversary of the Aspen Art Museum. To commemorate the event, the museum has announced that 30 percent of the proceeds would be given back to the artists of the sold works.
This year, the museum has been donated 50 artworks from artists like Shota Nakamura and Emma McIntyre. Nicola Lees (Director, Aspen Art Museum) said: “As an artist-founded institution, artists are centered within all we do, and the fulfilment of our mission depends on their trust. This year’s outstanding ArtCrush auction is a testament to the remarkable artists and supporters within our community…and we invite artists to retain a portion of the proceeds of their donated works, thereby promoting continuity, equitability, and sustainability. It is a policy we will be proud to implement long into the future.”

The artworks to be donated will be put on display at the museum from July 17. The first exhibition will be hosted by Christie’s, the museum auction partner, which will be held live during the ArtCrush. Another auction will be held virtually, for which the bidding will begin on July 25 on Aspen’s website. This year also marks the first time the Aspen Art Museum would include design works in its scope of artworks.
