Banksy Returns With Lighthouse Street Art In Unknown Location

Months since his wildlife-themed spree of street art, Banksy has dropped a new work – a lighthouse at an unknown location.

On his Instagram account, street artist Banksy posted an image of seemingly his latest work. The image featured a lighthouse – black against a cream-colored wall. A white light emitted from its top, while a painted black shadow connected the base of the lighthouse to the nearby bollard on the roadside. Superimposed over the mural was the text “I want to be what you saw in me”.

The artist – whose real identity remains anonymous – posted no details about the location of the new mural. As usual, he posted nothing about the meaning behind the work either. Social media users were quick to discuss and hypothesize the supposed meaning of both the mural and the text.

The lighthouse mural marks the return of Banksy after a gap of almost nine months. Barring a lone ‘Madonna and the child’ mural, the last time the artist made the news was in August 2024, when Banksy went on a spree in London. In a span of nine days, he unveiled several animal-related murals across the city. These included elephants peeking over boarded windows, a cat stretching against a wooden wall, and a school of fish. Most commentators believed that the theme behind the series, dubbed “Beastly London”, was saving captive animals in zoos from cruelty and abuse.
