Iconic Modernist Home Torn Down By Chris Pratt And Wife, Says Reports

As per reports, the iconic Zimmerman House in L.A. – currently owned by Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger – was demolished last year.

The Zimmerman House (as popularly known, but never officially named) was commissioned by Martin and Eva Zimmerman. It was completed in 1950 by Craig Ellwood. Over the years, the house became an icon of modernist architecture in Los Angeles. It was first sold in 1968, and then again in 1975 when Sam Rolfe and his wife Hilda – best known for creating the series ‘The Man From U.N.C.L.E.’ – bought it. Even after Sam died in 1993, his wife continued to live there.

In 2023, the property was sold to actor Chris Pratt and his wife, the author Katherine Schwarzenegger. Since the property was not publicly listed, its sale went under the radar. The couple chose the property primarily for its proximity to the home of Maria Shriver, Katherine’s mother.

This week, a report revealed that the house was demolished soon after the couple bought it in January last year. As of now, the construction of the new building is still in its early phases. The new house will be two stories tall, have a huge basement and a luxurious swimming pool. It will be designed by Ken Ungar, an architect based in L.A. The news of the demolition sent a backlash among architecture enthusiasts, though Pratt and his wife are yet to comment on it.

The original Zimmerman House was a single-story building spread across 2,770 square feet. It featured five bedrooms and three bathrooms. The entire property includes 36,000 square feet of land comprising a tennis court, a swimming pool, and an exotic garden featuring a variety of trees.
