In a move which should be applauded by everyone, Artist Tavares Strachan has announced major relief for the Bahamas. You might be aware that a major hurricane has hit the Bahamas and has left with a massive loss to life and property. Now, it will be tough for the re-building efforts which have already started in the Bahamas. As a part of efforts from his side, Artist Tavares says that he will give his proceeds from the New York Exhibition to Hurricane Relief Efforts in the Bahamas.
As per official records, it has been revealed that a total of 30 people have lost their lives from Hurricane ‘Dorian’. It is also said that hundreds have been missing after the Hurricane. Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis has said that the storm caused “generational devastation” to the archipelago. A minister of the Bahamian government also said that the death toll “could be staggering”.
Artist Tavares, who is born in the Bahamian capital of Nassau, was there when the storm hit the country. He regularly visits the Bahamas to meet his family and friends. He told ARTnews that he has seen many hurricanes in his life but they were ‘nothing like Dorian’ which tells us about the enormity of Hurricane Dorian.
Strachan said that “These things are more organic than we would like to admit,” “I think the issues will be different in a week as people get evacuated and then it’s rebuilding effort. At this time, people on the ground need to be sheltered and fed.”. He added that the funds will be allocated from his proceeds to two organizations, Direct Relief and World Central Kitchen.
