Artist Banksy has debuted 3 more artworks in London, reaching five new works this week.
The first of these works debuted on Wednesday, depicting three monkeys swinging over a bridge. Reports identified it as the bridge over Brick Lane in the eastern part of London. The second artwork appeared the next day, depicting a howling wolf stenciled over a satellite dish. The work was located over an abandoned store in the Peckham borough in south London. Reportedly, the dish was stolen within hours of the artwork’s debut. Police confirmed two men with ladders removed the work, though they are yet to make any arrests. The third work appeared on Friday in Walthamstow, England. It featured two seagulls sitting atop a fish-and-chips store, eating fish. The fishes depicted in the store’s banner are seamlessly integrated with the murals.
Previously, Banksy debuted his first work in months on Monday, featuring a mountain goat sitting precariously on a pillar near Kew Bridge in London. The next day, another mural followed: two elephants facing each other over the windows of a building in Chelsea.
Like always, the works were confirmed by Banksy himself on his Instagram handle. None of the five posts had any captions associated with them. This has led commentators to speculate their own meaning behind the works. Some argued that they depicted the harmony between nature and humans, while others claimed it signaled the end of humanity and the return of the primitive era.
One of the five works has already been stolen, reiterating the need to protect the public artworks created by the mysterious artist. In March, one of his murals was defaced by vandals. Last year, an artwork depicting drones, painted over a street sign, was stolen by two people.
