Artist/writer Zasha Colah will curate the 13th Berlin Biennale, set to open in the summer of 2025.
On Tuesday, organizers of the Berlin Biennale announced the decision. Colah was selected by a committee of international selectors, which included names like Olaf Nicolai, Sebastian Cichocki, and Elena Filipovic.
Zasha Colah has had a long and illustrious career in curating for international museums and events. She began her career as a curator of public programs at the National Gallery of Modern Art, Mumbai (2004-05) and then a curator of Indian Modern Art at CSMVS Museum, Mumbai (2009-11). She then moved to Europe, where she has been a part of various museums and art events. Some of the exhibitions Zasha Colah oversaw in recent years include “Pedro Gómez-Egaña: Inmeridiem” at National Public Library in Oslo (2021-22, co-curated with Marianne Zamecznik) and “Muna Mussie: Bologna St. 173″ at Archive Milano in Italy (2021, co-curated with Chiara Figone).

Colah also has extensive experience in curating biennales. She co-curated the 3rd Pune Biennale in 2017 and was part of the curatorial team for the 2nd Yinchuan Biennale in 2018. Most recently, she began serving as the senior artistic director at ar/ge kunst Bolzano in Italy. Beyond curatorial endeavors, Zasha Colah has also co-founded blackrice, a research collective, in 2007. She was also one of the founders of the artist/curator collective Clark House Initiative (2010-2022). Colah is also a writer and wrote her 2020 doctorate on the illegality practices in the Indo-Myanmar region since the 1980s.
