Bill Koch Collection Expected To Fetch $40M At Christie’s

Billionaire collector Bill Koch is selling another cache of works at Christie’s next month, expected to sell for over $40 million.

The cherry of the collection would be Champ d’avoine et coquelicots (1890), a landscape painting by Claude Monet. Sitting in Koch’s collection for more than 40 years, the work could sell between $12 million and $18 million. Another highlight is Paul Cézanne‘s Tasse, verre et fruits (1877), which carries the same estimate. Other works in the collection include Edgar Degas and Henry Matisse. On average, the collection can easily fetch more than $40 million.

Once a part of the Koch Industries, William “Bill” Koch is an oil and energy businessman. The 85-year-old is also an avid collector of art and wine. However, for the past few years, he has been selling a vast part of his collection. So far, he has sold part of his collection worth $112 million. This includes the $84 million netted from a Christie’s art auction in January. Prior to that, Christie’s also sold some of his wine collection in June 2025, fetching $28.8 million. It is not clear why Koch is selling his collection; neither the businessman nor the auction house has made any statements to explain it.

The auctions would be spread across Christie’s marquee week in New York in November. Aside from paintings and wine, Bill Koch is also selling off real estate. His Elk Mountain Lodge in Aspen, Colorado, has been up for auction since July. Spanning 52 acres, the house failed to attract a buyer at a $125 million price tag last year and now carries a discounted price of $99 million.
