British Man Sets Record Of Most Museum Visits In A Day

A British man has set a new Guinness World record for most museum visits in 24 hours by visiting 42 museums across London.

Ben Melham, age 42, works as an operations consultant in the museums sector. He said that while reading the Guinness Book of World Records to his kids one day, he was inspired to create a record of his own. On 25th October last year, he decided to put his thoughts into action. He began at 9.03 am with the Museum of Royal Pharmaceutical Society in East London and finished at 7.58 pm at the Royal Academy of Arts in Central London. Between this, he covered 42 museums spread across the British capital, including iconic names like the British Museum and the National Portrait Gallery.

While Melham did the event in October, the Guinness Book was only able to confirm this week that he is indeed the new holder of this record. He broke the record previously held by two Indians, Sujoy Kumar Mitra and Swaroop Dawrani, who had visited 33 museums in a day in 2024.

Enthralled by the world record he now holds, Melham has already set his eyes on a new target: to visit the most number of museums in a year. Starting in October of last year, he has visited 85 museums thus far. He said: “Museums preserve and share the stories and objects that define us. They are spaces where we come together to reflect on our past, discuss our present, and imagine our future.”
