Famous Rapper Kanye West is making the news with his latest purchase – the $57 million Malibu property designed by architect Tadao Ando.
According to reports, Kanye has been a fan of Tadao Ando ever since he visited Naoshima, the ‘art island’ built by Ando. He had often talked about the place and a desire to live in it. While the Japanese property was not up for residents, Kanye went with the best alternative. The 4000-square-foot house in Malibu, designed by Ando, was purchased by the rapper for $57.3 million. It was one of the few properties designed by the Pritzker Prize-winning architect in the United States. Despite its impressive price, the property would not put a dent in the purse of Kanye, who is estimated to be worth $1.8 billion (according to Forbes). The music icon is also tasting continuous success with his latest release ‘Donda’ and his Yeezy apparel brand.

The Malibu-based property was first listed for sale last year for a whopping $75 million. Seeing no buyers, it was later taken off from the listing. However, even at its current price, it is the second-priciest property sold in Malibu this year. The top spot belongs to the $87 million property bought by Whatsapp founder Jan Koum in February this year.

While originally designed by Tadao Ando, the property was sold by Wall Street financier Richard Sachs. Sachs bought the property in 2003 for just $1.9 million and has since then invested considerably in it. Over a period of seven years, Sachs poured millions into it and converted the compact property into what resembles a military bunker.
