Maryam Iman is a Los Angeles based Model, Influencer and Celebrity Hairstylist. Over the years she has accumulated an impressive following of over 500,000 followers on Instagram. As a model she has walked in LA Fashion Week and is now in the process of launching her own company ManifestBody. Today we had the opportunity to chat with her

Please tell us more about your career and how you transformed from a Celebrity Hairstylist to an Influencer?

So I started doing hair at sixteen and my first boss was a celebrity hairstylist. I was immediately working with high profile clients and working at very busy salons. I’ve been on social media since I was seventeen and gained a good following from my hair, health, and wellness tips. So it wasn’t much of transition from one to the other, I grew as influencer while growing as a hairstylist.

You have a substantial following of over 500k Followers on Instagram. Was there a turning point where your followers exponentially grew or has your growth been gradual over time?

Yes there must definitely was a turning point about four years ago. There was a period I wasn’t posting as much and had stepped away from social media, but when I came back it sky rocketed afterwards. I literally went from like 100k to like 250k within in like 6 months and then keep growing after that.

You are known for being body positive and a Vegetarian. When did you decide to become a Vegetarian and why?

Although I pretty much eat vegan 80% of time, I don’t feel right saying I am when it’s not 100% of the time. I was actually raised vegetarian as a child, then I begin to eat chicken/turkey as a child. I went my whole teens transitioning back and forth as a vegetarian. For me there so many reasons why I don’t eat meat. My biggest concern is what the meat industry is doing to our planet and how it’s contributing to global warming. Also these animals are being treated awful and slaughtered in such a horrible way. It’s very sad and heartbreaking. Then there’s my health. I truly believe a plant-based diet is better for my health. Meat has so many horrible things in it and can carries many diseases. I’ve never had beef or pork my whole life but I can’t definitely say eliminating chicken and turkey my health improved.

What are some of your favorite foods?

Avocados!!! I eat one almost every day ! I also love pasta, and cauliflower tacos!! Then definitely vegan ice-cream!

How has Instagram impacted your career?

Honestly it’s helped my career tremendously, having a platform to promote on is so beneficial. There’s definitely some downsides to having a huge following but the good outweighs the bad and it’s always allowed me to grow professional.

What advice do you have for someone wanting to grow their Instagram following?

Honestly now I feel like it’s SO hard with all the new algorithms but not impossible.  I’d say just to stay authentic, post consistently, and utilize everything. Do igtv, reels, stories, and regular post as much as possible. Hashtags are great as well!

What 3 hair products can you not live without?

Aveda damage remedy shampoo and conditioner. Also castor oil!!

What has been your biggest pinch me moment?

Walking in LA fashion week for Lila Nikole and representing natural curvy girls. It was such a beautiful moment and I got a lot of support.

What projects are you currently working on?

I am actually about to launch my line ManifestBody! I’ve been working on it for over a year now. I’m super excited to start curating events and meet ups! We have a lot of exciting this happening this year with the company to empower women to be the best version of themselves. You can check it out at manifest_body on Instagram.
