Whitney Museum Appoints Meg Onli, Laura Phipps On New Curatorial Positions

Whitney Museum, New York has made major staff changes, with appointing Meg Onli as curator-at-large and Laura Phipps as associate curator.

Writer-curator Meg Onli has been appointed as the curator-at-large at the Whitney Museum in New York. Onli is already engaged in co-curating a Roy Lichtenstein retrospective at Whitney along with Alex Da Corte and Scott Rothkopf (who is scheduled to join the museum as director this year). The retrospective, which will be the first major exhibition of Lichtenstein in over three decades, is scheduled for 2026. Additionally, Meg Onli is also co-curating the 2024 Whitney Biennial.

Over the years, Meg Onli has formed a formidable reputation for herself. She has been behind exhibitions like “Colored People Time: Mundane Features, Quotidian Pasts, Banal Presents” (2019) at ICA Philadelphia and “Ulysses Jenkins: Without Your Interpretation” (2022) at the Hammer Museum. Onli left ICA Philly after a long stint to join the Underground Museum in LA, which closed down shortly after. Speaking of her appointment at Whitney, Onli said: “I have always admired the Whitney’s long-standing history of field-defining exhibitions and support for emergent artist practices. I am very excited to be part of the life of the Whitney, and to collaborate and explore with the incredible team here.”
