The British Museum has come up with an expensive and complicated ticket plan for the upcoming Bayeux Tapestry exhibition.
For starters, the tickets during “peak” hours would cost £33, or $45, for standard adults. This is one of the most any museum in the UK has charges for an exhibition. However, things are not too bleak, because “non-peak” tickets would cost £27. “Non-peak” here refers to a non-holiday day, or a non-summer weekday (but only if booked before 5.10 PM). If you are a student or disabled, then you get further discounted tickets at just £25.
Then there is also the “super off peak” days where anyone can get tickets at £25. All you need to do is to book tickets for the last slots of a weekday. British Museum members are eligible to get free tickets, but only twice during the exhibition period, and they must book their slots in advance. And to top it off, the first two and last two weeks of the exhibition would be treated as “peak” irrespective of the day or time slot. All tickets are eligible of a 40-min tour, irrespective of the type.

The pricing suggests that the British Museum is treating the Bayeux Tapestry as its blockbuster exhibition of the years. If so, they wouldn’t be wrong to hope this. The Bayeux Tapestry, which is a visual record of the Norman invasion of England, has spent most of its life within France, and will be displayed in the UK for the first time in 900 years. The exhibition will open on September 10 and run until July 11, 2027.
