Dan Lie, Stella Zhong Among Gold Art Prize Winners For Asian Diaspora

Dan Lie and Stella Zhong are among the winners of the 2025 edition of the Gold Art Prize for rising artists from the AAPI and Asian diaspora.
The Gold Art Prize was established in 2021 by the LA-based community Gold House and art adviser Kelly Huang. Given every two years, the prize comes with a ‘no-strings-attached’ purse of $25,000 each for 5 winners, which means the recipients could use the money for any purpose they want. Like the 2023 edition, the prize money this time as well was sponsored by the Kahng Foundation.

The five winners of the Gold Art Prize this year are Stella Zhong, Morehshin Allahyari, Jacqueline Kiyomi Gork, Dan Lie, and Kennth Tam. Dan Lie is known for large installations of active biological ecosystems, including flowers and soil, which keep changing while they are exhibited. They were also the winner of Berlin’s Preis der Nationalgalerie last year.
Stella Zhong is known for her minimalistic paintings and sculptures reflecting themes of alienation. Gork is known for sculptures exploring how sound is experienced by us. Allahyari is a digital artist whose works deal with themes of colonialism and racism. Kenneth Tam creates videos and art installations exploring the intersection of the masculine and Asian experience.

Speaking about the winners, Kelly Huang said: “I’m proud that the Gold Art Prize has, since 2021, championed artists from the Asian diaspora, and its mission feels more vital than ever today. This year’s awardees reflect an even broader range of diasporic backgrounds, and it’s an honor to celebrate each artist’s contributions to shaping the future of contemporary art.”
