In Riyadh, Diriyah Art Futures was inaugurated as the new hub of new media arts in the entire MENA region.
The newly unveiled center is located in the Diriyah region in Riyadh. Once the capital of Saudi Arabia, Diriyah fell into despair after Riyadh was chosen as the new capital. For the last few years, the government has been trying to revitalize the region, which has also been chosen as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The new museum will only make things better.
Diriyah Art Futures is a grand home of new media arts – the first of its kind not just in the country, but the entire Middle East and North Africa region. As such, the role it would play in promoting art and culture in the region in the future could not be overstated. Haytham Nawar, director of the museum, said: “The opening of Diriyah Art Futures represents a milestone in the evolving narrative of new media arts, as we finally introduce perspectives from the Middle East and North Africa to global conversations in this field. DAF will serve as an epicenter for critical engagement and innovation at the intersection of art and technology, pushing creative boundaries and imagining new futures.”
