The Frieze New York has revealed the names of the 68 galleries participating in its upcoming edition in May.
It seems that this year’s edition will be similar to the previous year. The gallery count this year is just one less than last year, which was also the first year since Frieze moved The Shed as the new venue. It would seem that Frieze is aiming for another packed event to be accommodated at the smaller venue. However, unlike last year, Frieze New York is not coinciding with Independent New York – this would ensure that there is a greater footfall this year. Since Frienze acquired the Armory Show last year, many are also speculating if Frieze New York would change its format to make it different.
As far as the exhibitors go, all major mega galleries like Gagosian, Pace, David Zwirner, and Hauser & Wirth would be represented. Other top galleries White Cube, Gladstone Gallery, and Gallery Hyundai are also on the list. Like all years, almost all major New York galleries will join the fair; these include James Cohan, Chapter NY, and Casey Kaplan. The Focus section will include 16 galleries and feature underground artists.

Christine Messineo (Director, Frieze Americas) said: “In a city home to an array of outstanding art institutions, galleries and artists, Frieze is pleased to bring together, in a single venue, a host of exhibitors who together represent the finest in contemporary art. Frieze New York will combine a global perspective with a showcase of the city’s exceptional galleries while recognizing non-profit organizations that enrich the diverse arts communities of New York.”
