We have news of a new appointment in a leadership position at the Pace Gallery. Dealer Simon Preston is known to be moving to the Pace Gallery as its Senior Director. Now, this move comes amid the fact that New York’s Pace Gallery is rapidly expanding. Also, we know that the Pace Gallery is opening its new eight-story flagship space in the city very shortly.
Last week, Pace Gallery also announced that they are launching a new initiative called PaceX. This will be a combination of art and technology with art-world veteran Christy MacLear as its CEO. It is also known that Simon Preston shuttered his closely watched Chinatown gallery last year.
Therefore, this move to the Pace Gallery as its Senior Director makes sense. He is known to operate from Pace Gallery’s New York headquarters which will be presumably in its new space. Simon will oversee all the new initiatives and curatorial ventures of the gallery.
Talking about his role at the Pace Gallery, Simon Preston said that “Primarily, my role is to develop new artist relationships—bring new artists to the program, to create more contemporary programming,”. Simon also added that Pace Gallery’s CEO Marc Glimcher is “trying to redefine what the art gallery’s role is in today’s world, and to move beyond only artist representation and have a more spontaneous connection with the broader public.”
Announcing Simon Preston’s appointment as Senior Director at Pace Gallery, Marc Glimcher, Pace Gallery’s CEO said “From his time spent at the Project to running his own gallery, he has built steadfast relationships with both important collectors and many of the most important artists of our time, Pace is thrilled to welcome him to the family.”
Simon Preston also talked about shuttering his New York gallery and added that “I looked at what the next 10 years look like, and this just seemed like a good opportunity.”
