Singer Ed Sheeran will debut his paintings, surprisingly similar to Jackson Pollock, this Friday in London.
In a recent interview, the popular music artist said that he had been painting for many years, but only took it up seriously last year, whenever he got time between his tours and concerts. Titled “Cosmic Carpark Paintings”, the paintings are an example of abstract art that looks like a splash of colors. The works would be showcased at the Heni Gallery in London this Friday. His foundation will also sell prints of the paintings for £900 ($1,200). Half of the proceeds from the sales would go towards funding schools in the UK. Children’s education has been one of Sheeran’s most outspoken causes.
But perhaps more than the artist himself, it is the resemblance of his works that has caused a wider discussion. People have not failed to notice the striking similarity between the works of Ed Sheeran and Jackson Pollock, one of the most famous modern artists. But while Pollock’s work was an experiment of making art with minimal contact between the brush and the canvas, Sheeran’s is reportedly inspired by celestial patterns. This is despite both artists using similar techniques to create the works.

Neither Ed Sheeran nor the gallery has made any mention of Jackson Pollock while describing the paintings. The series has also been met with some derision from art critics. It remains to be seen if Ed Sheeran, who is one of the most followed music artists on Spotify, would see similar success in the art world.
