The ancient pyramids, Sphinx were closed to the public last week to host the wedding of tech billionaire Ankur Jain.
Ankur Jain is an American entrepreneur of Indian origin. He is known for founding Bilt Rewards and is estimated to be worth $1.2 billion in 2024, as per Forbes. Last week, he got married to his longtime girlfriend, Erika Hammond. Hammond is a former WWE wrestler and founder of the fitness brand STRONG.
To host their lavish wedding, Ankur Jain picked the site of the ancient pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx. It is said that the entire wedding celebration, which lasted for a week, might have cost $3 million. It was also reported that the couple paid $200,000 to Egyptian authorities to host the wedding. Egyptian officials, like Zahi Hawass (Minister of Tourism and Antiquities) were present at the wedding.
Even as the wedding was underway, many people started sharing glimpses of the ceremony on social media. These included a private tour of the pyramids and the sphinx, as well as a close look at the statue of Pharaoh Ramses II. The couple also held the actual wedding ceremonies during the sunset between the two pyramids.
The social media posts also drew criticisms from many, with few calling for greater taxes on the rich. An after-party was reportedly hosted at the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is yet to open to the public. The museum, once completed, would be the largest museum dedicated to Egyptian history in the world.
